Her Excellency Dr. Inaya Ezzeddine

Lebanon State Minister for Administrative Development Affairs

Dr Inaya Ezzeddine is currently the Lebanon State Minister for Administrative Development Affairs. She is the founder and Director of Medical Analysis and Pathology (M.A.P) Laboratory in Beirut. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from the American University of Beirut in Biology and her MD from AUB Medical school. Dr. Inaya was a Medical Trainee in Emory University School of Medicine in Georgia, USA and a speciality trainee in Pathology and Laboratory medicine. She was a visiting Pathologist in Royal Free Hospital in the University of London in the U.K. The minister is also active in several professional organizations such as the Lebanese Order of Physicians and is a board member of Early Childhood Intervention Lebanon.

    Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri

    President, American University of Beirut

    Fadlo R. Khuri is the 16th and current president of the American University of Beirut, a position to which he was elected in March 2015 and assumed office in September 2015. He is a Lebanese-American oncologist specializing in the study of cancers of the lung and aerodigestive tract. He is the former deputy director of the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, as well as the former chair of the Emory University School of Medicine’s department of hematology and medical oncology. He is the editor-in-chief of the medical journal Cancer.

      Professor Sana Odeh

      Professor Sana Odeh is a Clinical Professor and Faculty Liaison for Global Programs of Computer Science at Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, and an Affiliated Faculty of CS, New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). She is founder and chair Arab Women in Computing and its conference and founder and chair of the Annual NYU Abu Dhabi International Hackathon for the Social Good in the Arab World. She is a member of the leadership committee of the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing and the steering committee of the ACM Council on Women in Computing (ACM-W).

        Rula Abu Daher

        Chief Corporate Management Officer (CCMO) at touch, Lebanon

        Apart from constantly accumulating achievements, Rula Abu Daher, the Chief Corporate Management Officer (CCMO) at touch, is one of the most charismatic, hardworking, and high achieving business women in the telecom sector. With over 17 years of progressive experience, she manifests excellent competency in the technical and business aspects. Rula proved to have very strong influencing and leadership skills in parallel with hands-on approach. Rula Abu Daher was awarded ICT Woman of the Year for the Middle East in 2007. Rula also received the Best Customer Service award in the MENA region in 2016 . Rula has assumed several executive key positions starting as the CTO from 2004 to 2013 where she was a major contributor to the revolutionary changes that took place in the Telecom sector in Lebanon in addition to being the CCO and the most recent being the CCMO.

          Dr. Kaoutar El Maghraoui

          Research Scientist, IBM T.J. Watson Research Center| ArabWIC Co-Chair

          Dr. Kaoutar El-Maghraoui is a research scientist at the IBM T.J Watson Research Center in New York. Her research interests are in the areas of operating systems, cloud computing, data analytics, and Artificial Intelligence. She obtained a PhD degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA. She was awarded several fellowships and awards including the American Association of University Women fellowship, the Robert McNaughton Award for best PhD. thesis in computer science, IBM’s Eminence and Excellence award, and two IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards for her technical contributions. She is a co-chair of the Arab Women in Computing organization.

            Dr. Wassim El Hajj

            Associate Professor and Chair of the Computer Science department at the American University of Beirut

            Wassim El-Hajj is Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Computer Science department at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He received his PhD in 2006 from the computer science department at Western Michigan University (WMU).  His research interests are in the areas of Wireless Communication, Network Security, and Data Mining. To support his research he was awarded many grants including a major fund, in 2013, from Qatar Foundation for the amount of 1 million dollars. His research activities culminated with 74 publications, published in reputable journals such as IEEE Transaction, ACM Transaction, and IEEE Sensors, as well as top IEEE conferences that include ICDM, EMNLP, ICC, AINA, GLOBECOM, WCNC, and ISWTA. He is the recipient of numerous recognitions, most notably, the WMU Excellence in Research Award for three years in a row and the Teaching Effectiveness Award which is considered the highest teaching award at WMU.

              Jennifer Olmsted

              Professor of Economics and Chair of Drew University Economics Department, New Jersey, USA

              Professor Jennifer Olmsted did her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and then obtained a Master’s in Agricultural Economics and a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Davis. Her areas of specialization include development economics, gender economics, labor economics and globalization.

                Dr. Nizar Habash

                Associate Professor, New York University Abu Dhabi

                Dr. Nizar Habash is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). He specializes in natural language processing and computational linguistics. Before joining NYUAD, he was a research scientist at Columbia University’s Center for Computational Learning Systems. His research includes extensive work on machine translation, morphological analysis, and computational modeling of Arabic and its dialects. Professor Habash has been a principal investigator or co-investigator on over 20 grants.                   Hala Hanna

                  Director, Economic Prosperity at Solve, MIT

                  Hala Hanna is the Director, Economic Prosperity at Solve – an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hala’s career revolves around policy, strategy, and building partnerships for social impact. She served as the Director of Strategy & Impact at the World Economic Forum. In 2015, she cofounded a policy platform with 60,000+ subscribers. Hala holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University, and in Development Economics from American University, DC, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the American University of Beirut. She was a Global Leadership Fellow of the World Economic Forum. Hala is a Senior Advisor of Women Political Leaders Global Forum.

                    MP Doctor Engineer Marianne Amir Azer is a member of the Egyptian Parliament, an Associate Professor in both Nile University (NU), and the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI). She was the Associate of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology for Strategic Initiatives. She is an author/ co-author of over 45 international publications.                       Mai Medhat is the CEO and co-founder of Eventtus; an events engagement platform and the leading event app provider in the Middle East.

                      Mai is an Egyptian tech entrepreneur holds a Computer Engineering degree from Ain Shams University. She co-founded Eventtus in 2012 with a mission to mobilize events after a personal experience at some events that used to be managed manually. The company successfully served 9,000 events and 180,000 attendees since then and growing into 15+ countries.                           Acile leads the Retail, eCommerce and Online Services industries at Google MENA. She started at Google in 2012, based out of San Francisco, where she developed the strategy for & managed the digital presence of eCommerce giants such as eBay. She moved to Dubai in 2014 to manage the FMCG business at Google in MENA. Prior to Google, Acile was based in Lebanon, managing sales teams & operations at Al Bonian Group, a wholesaler of industrial electrical equipment.                                   Ghida is a hard-worker, dreamer, humanist and lifelong learner who loves data and new technologies and who is always looking for new challenges. She has ~6 years of operational and research experience within two of the major Internet Service Providers worldwide. Currently, she is a senior Data Scientist at Liberty Global in Amsterdam in charge of using the company data for increase business efficiency and improving customer experience. One of her objectives is create bridges between the MENA startup ecosystem and the U.S. & Europe’s for investments and knowledge sharing and economic opportunities. Noha is also a startup mentor to tens of Egyptian startups.                                                                               I am currently a PhD Student in the Department of Information Systems at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)– United States. I received my B.S. in Information Systems from King Khalid University (KKU). I work across multiple domains in the information field, with a focus on human-computer interaction, information retrieval and health consumer informatics.

                                                                              I am very passionate about supporting and promoting the participation of women in technology. This can be seen through my past and current participation and affiliation with a variety of organizations dedicated to support women in technology including WICS at Penn, CWIT at UMBC, and recently ArabWIC. I am currently the Vice President of the Arab Women in Computing (ArabWIC) Chapter of Saudi Arabia. I also serve as a coordinator of ArabWIC’s social media channels.

                                                                                Founder and CEO of Riyada for Social Innovation and Lecturer at the American University of Beirut

                                                                                Mona Itani is a social entrepreneur, social activist, and academic of a computer and communications engineering background. She worked as a professional in multinational telecommunications companies from 2006 until 2011. After earning her Masters in Engineering Management degree, she joined the Engineering Management program and the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut where she served as a lecturer and researcher since 2011. She is a published author on entrepreneurship, women, ethics, and engineering education. She is the chair of IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group Lebanon Section and the co-chair of Arab Women in Computing (ArabWIC) Lebanon Chapter. She also acts as a mentor for young entrepreneurs and as a consultant on entrepreneurship education, and social entrepreneurship. She co-founded several social initiatives that aim to promote women in technology such as She Develops Hackathon and Girls got IT which hosted more than 800 girls so far. She won the Inspiring IEEE Women in Engineering Member of the year honorable mention award in 2016, IEEE Lebanon section most active member award for 2015, and was a finalist in the McKinsey Next Generation Women Leaders award for 2015. She is the Founder and CEO of Riyada (Arabic for entrepreneurship), a social enterprise that aims to provide the youth with practice-based social entrepreneurship education to develop solutions for real problems with the use of technology. She is expecting to complete her PhD degree from the University of Leicester’s School of Management, UK in 2018. Her thesis topic is about women entrepreneurs in the technology domain in Lebanon.
